In 2003 two generous donations made by the late Jack Borbidge, secured the immediate future of the Institute.
Jack Borbidge, who passed away on Christmas Eve 2002 after a battle with Cancer, bequeathed more than $250,000 to the Institute.
The bequest followed a $200,000 donation from Jack shortly before his passing.
Jack and his family’s significant support of the Institute enabled the appointment of senior molecular biologist Dr Monirul Islam to the research team.
In recognition of this monumental donation, Jack’s memory was preserved by the Institute in 2004 when the Jack and Millie Borbidge Cancer Laboratory was opened by Mr Roger Snell at the previous St John of God site.
