Lighthouse Classic 2026

The Lighthouse Classic is a beautiful 12km coastal walk held each January in support of the
Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.

Created in honour of Janet Jones OAM, a much-loved community member who faced cancer three times with courage and kindness, the event is now lovingly continued by her children to keep her legacy alive.

Walkers can meet at the Aireys Inlet Lighthouse and walk along the Surf Coast Walk to Spouts Creek via the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club and return. It’s a breathtaking stretch of the Great Ocean Road known for sweeping ocean views, rugged beaches and refreshing sea air.

Reaching the lighthouse and placing a hand on its cool, curved walls has become a powerful moment for many participants: a symbol of hope, resilience and the belief that every step can lead to something brighter.

But I can’t get to the Airey’s Inlet!

The Lighthouse Classic is all about honouring loved ones and raising funds for cancer research, and you don’t have to walk from Aireys Inlet to participate! You can walk anywhere—whether it’s along your favourite local trail, a park, or even your own neighbourhood. Whether you stroll, stride or take it on as a New Year challenge, the Lighthouse Classic is a meaningful way to start the year on the right foot — connecting with nature, honouring a legacy and raising vital funds for cancer research that changes lives.

For an extra special touch, we encourage you to finish your walk at a meaningful spot, like a lighthouse if there’s one nearby. But if not, no worries! A significant monument, a special tree, or even a place that holds personal meaning to you works just as well. It’s your journey, your way—every step counts towards making a difference.
